Women’s Volleyball earns road sweep at Coker Tuesday night

Hartsville, S.C. —- The Catawba College women's volleyball team made quick work on the road in South Atlantic Conference play Tuesday night, sweeping Coker in straight sets.

 

TEAM STATS

- Catawba recorded 41 kills to Coker's 24

- The Catawba Indians hit .189 while holding the Cobras to .008

- Catawba had 37 assists to Coker's 22

- The Catawba Indians tallied nine service aces while Coker added three

- Catawba's 55 digs outnumbered the Cobras' 39

- Coker held the advantage in blocks nine to four

 

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Jordan Danielson hit .320 for a team-high 11 kills while adding a team-high five service aces

- Kelcie Love joined in her in double-digits kills with 10

- Chloe Danielson added eight kills on just 15 swings for a .533 hitting percentage

- Dara Kane handled setting duties, recording 33 assists on the night

- Riley Hill led the team in digs once again with 17, while Kary Hales chipped in 10

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST SET

- Chloe Danielson's kill capped Catawba's fast 9-1 start out of the gates to take a hold on the early lead

- Their lead grew to 14-3 after three consecutive aces from Jordan Danielson and a kill from Love

- Four straight points for the Cobras forced a Catawba timeout as the hosts cut their deficit to 16-9

- Another 6-1 Coker run got Catawba's lead down to 21-17

- A Danielson kill and ace righted the ship, as Catawba took set one, 25-19

 

SECOND SET

- The teams traded points early on in set two, as the sides were tied 7-7

- Coker strung together seven straight points to earn a 14-7 advantage

- The Cobras led 20-13 with set point in sight

- The Catawba Indians responded, recording nine of 10 points to take a 22-21 lead after a pair of Jordan Danielson kills

- Catawba closed the set with three straight points, as Katrina Misra's kill preceded back-to-back Coker errors

 

THIRD SET

- Coker started the third set with four straight errors to give Catawba a 4-0 lead

- The Cobras stormed back to take the lead after four straight points

- Catawba's 14-5 run forced two Coker timeouts to take a 20-10 lead

- Coker responded with a kill out of the timeout, but Catawba closed the match with five straight points as Hill's ace earned Catawba its fifth conference win of the year

- Catawba returns to Goodman Arena on Saturday, hosting Lenoir-Rhyne for Catawba Homecoming at 12:30 p.m.
