
Lions felled on road versus Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Mars Hill volleyball team (14-11, 10-7 SAC) was defeated in four sets by Queens (18-5, 15-3 SAC) Saturday afternoon.
Tied 18 all later in the first set, the fifth tie fo the frame, back-to-back kills from Chanel Turner turned the tides for the Royals. Queens ended the frame by taking four of the last six points, capitalizing on three Lions' errors.
Falling into a 3-0 deficit early in the second set, the Lions won five of the next seven to tie the set at five. The Royals pulled away midway through the stanza, including a 4-0 run that saw Queens go up 14-8. The continued momentum carried throughout, ending the set on a 6-1 run to go up by two sets.
A back-and-forth third set saw the Lions tie the game at 18 late in the frame. The teams continued to trade points until it was once again tied at 23. Kills from Sally Anne Johnson and Grace Lilly secured the set for the Lions and forced a fourth.
The Royals went on a pivotal 8-0 run with the set tied at seven to build the lead they would not relinquish. Casey Tarvin and Logan Witt each recorded 14 kills while Turner added 11 on the day.
Johnson led the Lions with 12 kills and hit .478 while adding four blocks. Lilly added eight on the day. Ully Martins led all players with 24 digs while both Jordan Schmucker and Sara Pasour each recorded 16 assists.
The Lions travel to Carson-Newman on Tuesday, November 5 for game three of their four-game roadtrip. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
