HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter

Limestone was knocking on the door with its opening possession, moving the ball 74 yards on 8 plays to set up a 2nd-and-goal at the Catawba 1-yard line. However, the Saints were unable to punch the rock into the endzone over the next two plays before Brooks fumbled at the goal line on a 4th-and-goal.

Second Quarter

A roughing the punter penalty would give the Indians great field position late in the first quarter, and the home team capitalized early in the second  when quarterback Ken Avent capped an 11-play, 80-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown scramble on 3rd-and-goal to make it a 7-0 game with 13:50 remaining.

Limestone responded with a 47-yard drive, highlighted by a 32-yard pass play to Rau, but the momentum stalled following a holding penalty and then junior Thomas Cook (Moore, S.C.) missed a 45-yard field goal. Catawba would extend its lead to 14-0 a few plays later on a 2-yard TD run by Kenyatta Greene.

The Saints ensuing drive again lost steam around midfield, forcing the visitors to punt, and the Indians promptly took advantage with a 53-yard touchdown catch-and-run by Devonte Tanksley. Follow a three-and-out by Limestone, Catawba pushed the lead to 24-0 at halftime behind a 24-yard field goal.

Third Quarter

The Indians continued to roll in the third quarter as they needed just four plays to put the contest out of reach, 30-0, on a 28-yard touchdown catch by Will Sweeper.

Limestone, who would throw an interception on its first play and then turned the ball over on downs, accumulated just 14 yards of total offense on its first three possessions of the second half. Catawba exploited the defensive efforts by using a 9-play, 86-yard drive to push the margin to 37-0.

Fourth Quarter

A nice punt by Cook pinned the Indians inside their own 10-yard line to start the final period, but the home team would march 92 yards on 11 plays to make it a 43-0 contest with 9:30 left in regulation. The Saints finally got on the board on the ensuing possession to prevent the program's first shutout since 2016.

Phillips hit Scott for gains of 11 and 13 yards on the scoring drive before finding Rau behind the defense for a 48-yard touchdown reception. Limestone would miss the extra point before the home-standing Indians were able to run off the final 6:27 on the game clock to secure the decisive 43-6 win.

TURNING POINT

While they missed a great scoring opportunity on their first drive of the day, the Saints were still in good shape after the defense forced a three-and-out late in the first. However, a roughing the kicker penalty by Limestone would allow the Indians to stay on the field and punch in the go-ahead score a few plays later.
