Trojans Preserve Second Half Goal to Claim Victory over Lynn; 1-0

ANDERSON, S.C.-Before a crowd of over 500 fans, Anderson University women's soccer claimed its home season opener over Lynn University, 1-0, Thursday evening at Trojan Stadium.

Anderson moves to 1-0-1 on the young season while Lynn falls to 1-2 overall as they head to play another South Atlantic Conference member, Newberry on Saturday.

A second half goal by freshman Lexi Williams was all Anderson needed as the Trojans held off a late surge by the Fighting Knights. Williams ran down a perfect pass by junior Lauren Allan and was able to drill the ball past the keeper to score her first career goal.

For the game, Lynn outshot the Trojans 15-8 while holding a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Along with the Black and Gold's backline, junior Abby Helm played an outstanding defensive match recording seven saves en route to the shutout. The Trojans were able to fend off an 11 shot second half to preserve the victory.

Anderson is back in action on Saturday when it host Peach Belt opponent UNC Pembroke. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
