
Mars Hill concludes 2022 season on road versus UVA Wise

GAME ONE: UVAW 9, MHU 1
The Cavaliers scored eight runs in the first two innings of play to secure the game one win Saturday afternoon.
Kara Long plated two with a single up the middle to open the scoring in the bottom of the first. Following a RBI groundout from Alexi Miles, Long was plated on a two-run single to put UVA Wise up by five after the first.
Sydney Craig launched a solo home run in the top of the second to cut the deficit to four, but the Lions allowed three more runs in the second.
In the bottom of the sixth, Sarah Barrett hit a solo home run to plate the ninth Cavaliers' run of the contest.
Long, Miles, and Buchanan each recorded two RBI while Barrett went 3-for-3 from the plate.
McKenna Falwell earned the win, striking out six and allowing one run on five hits. Kayla Gallagher suffered the loss, allowing eight runs on five hits.
GAME TWO: UVAW 14, MHU 4
UVA Wise's offense continued to roll, plating eight in the first inning en route to their Saturday sweep.
Mars Hill opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Maggie Langheim that scored Katie Todd. UVA Wise responded with eight in the bottom half of the frame, highlighted by Buchanan's three-run home run to right.
A RBI groundout from Alyssa Christopher scored Zoie Pistel in the top of the second to plate the Lions' second run of the game. The Cavaliers plated five more runs in the bottom of the third to build their lead to nine, up 11-2.
Christopher picked up her second RBI of the contest, plating Pistel once again off a RBI groundout in the top of the fourth. Kendal Bowers scored Maegan Blair later in the frame for the Lions' fourth run.
Buchanan led all players with three hits and four RBI. Sarah Barrett recorded another three hits. Christopher led the Lions with two RBI while Pistel led the team with two runs scored.
Sydney Collins picked up her eighth win of the season while Kayla Gallagher was credited with her second loss of the day.
