Sisk Sets New Record as No. 7 Limestone Defeats Wingate

GAFFNEY, S.C.  – Senior attack Shannon Sisk (Brooklin, Ontario) set a new all-time career assist record as the nationally seventh-ranked Limestone College women's lacrosse team defeated non-conference opponent Wingate University, 14-6, on Wednesday evening at Saints Field.

  • Senior attack Kendra Sheppard (Toronto, Ontario) led the Saints with four goals.
  • Junior midfielder Courtney Lafler (Penn Yan, N.Y.), freshman midfielder Julia Foster (Louisville, Ky.) and senior midfielder Anna O'Donnell (Easton, Md.) added two goals each.
  • Freshman attack Britannie Ouimet (Westlock, Alberta), junior attack Caitlyn Nemeth (Old Bridge, N.J.), Sisk, and sophomore midfielder Rachel Denney (Fort Mill, S.C.) all recorded one goal.      
  • With six assists, Sisk surpassed the previous assist record of 221 and now has 224 for her career.   
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Jenna Haring (Irving, N.Y.) notched two saves and the win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
First Half
Wingate struck first by putting the ball into the back of the net less than a minute into regulation to go out ahead of the Saints, 1-0. Both teams traded a series of two goals before the Saints took control of the half. Limestone evened the score at three-all before tallying five consecutive goals to end the half ahead of the Bulldogs, 9-3.
 
Second Half
Out of the break, the Blue and Gold continued the scoring run to bring the advantage to 10-3 at the 26:07 minute mark. Wingate looked to rally with two unanswered goals to close the gap, 10-5, with 16:15 left in regulation. In the final minutes, the Limestone defense stood firm allowing just one more goal from the Bulldogs while Limestone's offense added four more tallies to the scoreboard as the Saints defeated Wingate 14-6.   
 
NOTABLES
  • Limestone outshot the Bulldogs 37-9.
  • Sheppard is six goals away from recording 100 career goals.
  • Junior defender Alyssa Voccia (Greenacres, Fla.) now has 110 draw controls for her career after recording a game-high 11 draws in tonight's game.

The Saints return to action on Friday, Apr. 6 against Lees-McRae College. The Conference Carolinas game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. in Banner Elk, N.C.
