
Mars Hill takes down Golden Eagles for third straight win
The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (3-0) defeated Charleston (0-2) by a score of 15-12 Sunday afternoon.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (3-0) defeated Charleston (0-2) by a score of 15-12 Sunday afternoon.
The Lions started the competition out strong with a goal by Sydney Joyce in the first two minutes of the first quarter. Samantha Newton followed closely behind with a goal just over one minute later, setting the score to 2-0. The Golden Eagle's Destiny Jackson interrupted the scoring streak, cutting the Lions' lead in half. Goals from Joyce and Gabby Bianchi saw the score be 3-2 at the end of the first 15 minutes of play.
The Lions had four different goal scorers in the second, but Charleston hung tough, scoring three goals to enter the half trailing 7-5. Mars Hill got goals from Joyce, Kiersten Foust, Alexa Tazzetta, and Tiffany Saavedra.
Mars Hill scored four times in the third with Haley Stallings netting two. She scored an additional two goals in the fourth quarter, her fourth proving to be the game-winner.
Joyce and Stallings each tallied four goals for the Lions throughout the competition. Joyce also led the Lions with three assists. Foust ended the day with two goals and two assists for four points.
Defending South Atlantic Confernce Defensive Player of the Week Lauren Bryner made 10 saves to earn her second win of the season.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday, March 1 in Banner Elk, North Carolina, taking on Lees-McRae at 5 p.m.
