
Joyce nets eight as Lions rout Converse
The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (2-0) defeated Converse (0-1) by a score of 19-5 Saturday afternoon inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
MARS HILL, N.C. - The Mars Hill women's lacrosse team (2-0) defeated Converse (0-1) by a score of 19-5 Saturday afternoon inside the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium.
The Lions scored four goals in the first 2:09 of the first quarter off the sticks of Samantha Newton, Sydney Joyce, Camryn Marcey, and Alexa Tazzetta. Following a goal from Cassidy O'Neill off the free position, Mars Hill reeled off five straight with Joyce scoring three in the stretch. Tazzetta and Haley Stallings scored the other two goals.
In the second, Mars Hill outscored Converse 4-1 with Joyce netting two goals and Stallings and Newton scoring the other tallies. The Lions held Converse scoreless in the third as Stallings struck twice while Joyce scored her seventh of the game.
The Lions closed out the contest, scoring three goals in the final six minutes off the sticks of Stallings, Joyce, and Chandler Werner.
Joyce led all players and tied her career-high with nine points (8g, 1a) followed by Stallings' five (5g). Tazzetta ended the contest with four points (2g, 2a).
Reigning South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Lauren Bryner made six saves and picked up seven groundballs in the win.
Mars Hill closes out their three-game homestand on Friday, February 17 when they host Montevallo. The contest is set for a 6 p.m. start.
