
Park hits for cycle, Lions felled by Indians

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Mars Hill softball team (9-13, 0-4 SAC) was swept by Catawba (14-14, 2-2 SAC) by scores of 14-6 and 14-13 Tuesday afternoon.
GAME ONE: CAT 14, MHU 6 - 6 Innings
Catawba used a 10-run sixth inning to cap off a 14-0 scoring run to take game one.
Trailing 6-4 entering the sixth, a three-run home run off the bat of Brianna Herring put the Indians up 7-6. Kary Hales and Riley Tucker collected two RBI apiece later in the inning, securing the run-rule victory.
The Lions trailed 1-0 entering the third before Farley Park's two-run home run. They built their lead to 6-1 in the top of the fifth as Payton Little blasted a grand slam over the right center wall.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Indians plated three, highlighted by Alexis Monroe's two-run single.
Herring led all players with three hits and six RBI. Little led the Lions with two hits and three RBI.
GAME TWO: CAT 14, MHU 13
The Indians rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring five to come from behind and complete the sweep.
A pair of RBI singles and bases loaded walks helped Catawba secure the win.
Farley Park hit for the cycle for the Lions. She recorded a single in the first, a double in the fifth, triple in the sixth, and capped off the feat with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh.
The Lions trailed 8-2 entering the fifth. Payton Little's three-run home run opened the scoring in the top of the frame. Jessica Senn followed up with a two-run shot, sending the Lions into the sixth down one.
Mars Hill scored four in the top of the sixth, highlighted by Park's two-run triple. Little picked up her fourth RBI of the contest with a single up the middle. Park's two-run blast in the seventh put the Lions up 13-9.
Park led all players with four hits while she and Little led the team with four RBI apiece. Kary Hales led Catawba with four RBI while Riley Tucker and Grace Flynn led the team with three hits apiece.
Mars Hill returns to action on Saturday, March 16 when they take on Carson-Newman. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
