Coker Sweeps West Liberty Opening Weekend of Spring Season

Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Softball Team swept West Liberty in their season opener (Feb. 3rd) to start their year off with a bang. Coker took the first game by a close 3-2 and the second with a deafening 10-0.

Game One:

The Cobras jumped ahead quickly with a short lead of one run in the first inning, with Julie Hilliard bringing home Ariana Fair. West Liberty answered quickly, adding on two runs of their own in the second inning. It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Cobras were able to rally and add on another run, this time an RBI by Cameron Jackson. Coker then sealed the deal in the seventh and final inning, Chloe Pelham smashing a double and reigning in Ariana Fair for the win.

Jenae Fedewa picked up the win (2-0), pitching a hefty 79-58 for the game. Fedewa faced a total of 28 batters throughout the game with three strikeouts.

Game Two:

In the second game of the night, Coker turned up the heat within minutes of the game beginning. In the first inning, Kelsi Scott, Julie Hilliard, Delaney Eaves, Mya Cribbs, and Cameron Jackson flew across home plate. This put the Cobras up with a pretty 5-0 lead. The Hilltoppers had no answer for the Cobras and began the second inning with no runs scored. Coker continued their offensive rampage adding on an extra two runs in the third inning, now increasing their score to 8-0. These three runs were hit in by Julie Hilliard and Cameron Jackson once again. Once again, no answer from the hilltoppers as they went into the third inning. Although the unresponsive game from the hilltoppers, Coker went on to score two more runs to seal their fate, ending the game in high fashion at 10-0.

Tibby Hessian (2-0) claimed this win for Coker throwing 69-47 for the night.

The Cobras will be returning to the mound on February 4th against West Liberty for another double header at 11 and 1 PM. The game will be hosted in Hartsville, SC. Live stats and streaming will be available at www.cokercobras.com
