The South Atlantic Conference and AstroTurf Present Senior Spotlights Featuring Queens Baseball, Tennis, Women's Golf and Track & Field
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – In light of the recent events of the COVID-19 pandemic that canceled the remainder of the 2020 South Atlantic Conference spring sports seasons, the SAC along with its corporate partner AstroTurf, will be presenting the SAC AstroTurf Senior Spotlights. These highlights will showcase the spring sports teams at each of our 12 institutions and will give fans a brief overview of the team's shortened season, while highlighting the 2020 senior student-athletes on each team.
We continue our AstroTurf Senior Spotlights with the Queens University of Charlotte Royals and the baseball, men's and women's tennis, women's golf, and men's and women's track & field teams.
BASEBALL
The Queens baseball team finished the 2020 season with a 4-19 overall record, including going 4-5 in SAC play. The Royals opened their season taking on three top-20 teams to start the season, including No. 1 Tampa and played 11 total games against nationally ranked opponents.
The Royals were led by a group of five seniors who helped begin the baseball program three years ago and were instrumental in the team's two wins over nationally ranked opponents during that time.
Senior utility player Sam Weidie saw action in two games with five at-bats during the 2020 season.
Senior Dominic Ford played in 16 games batting .328 with 10 RBIs, two home runs, a double, and 13 runs scored.
Senior catcher Ryan Dudney batted .190 in 12 games in 2020 with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored.
Senior outfielder CJ Hammonds batted .278 with a double, a triple, three RBIs, and five runs scored.
Senior infielder Chase Hetzel played in five games in 2020, batting .091 with a run scored.

WOMEN'S TENNIS
The Queens women's tennis team posted a 3-1 record overall with a 2-0 record in SAC play. The team featured ITA Division II doubles All-Americans Sasha Davidzenka and Yana Fleyer. The pair won the 2019 ITA Southeast Regional Doubles Championship in September.
Leading the way for the Royals was their lone senior Isabel Fornies. She posted a 1-2 record at No. 1 singles and was 2-1 at No. 2 doubles with partner Viktorija Veselinova in 2020.

MEN'S TENNIS
The Queens men's tennis team posted a 5-0 record in 2020, including wins over nationally ranked No. 18 North Georgia and No. 6 Lander. They also defeated a pair of Division I opponents, Winthrop (4-3) and Gardner-Webb (4-3).
Leading the Royals were five seniors: Agustin Aran Martin, Joel Dunlop, Sebastian Meum, Paolo Bompieri, and Eugeno Zanasi.
Martin went 3-1 at No. 1 singles and 2-2 in doubles play in 2020.
Dunlop finished the season with an 0-1 record at No. 1 doubles with partner Meum.
Meum went 3-1 in singles action, playing No. 5 and No. 6. He was also 4-1 in doubles action at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Bompieri went 1-2 at No. 3 singles and was also 1-2 at No. 3 doubles.
Zanasi closed out the year with a 1-0 record at No. 4 singles and a 1-0 record at No. 2 doubles.

WOMEN'S GOLF
The Queens women's golf team closed out the 2020 season with three top-10 finishes and eight top-20 finishes, including a season-best third place showing at the Rendleman Invitational.
Leading the way for the Royals were a trio of seniors: Oriana Jerez, Sydney Lia and Kristin Whitehead.
Jerez played in two rounds, posting an 87.50 stroke average in 2020.
Lia played in 17 rounds, carding an 81.29 stroke average.
Whitehead was unable to play in 2020.

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The Queens women's track & field team earned its third consecutive SAC Indoor Track & Field Championship in 2020. They were ranked first in the southeast region and had two student-athletes qualify for the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship in three events.
The Royals were led by seven seniors: Natane Deruytter, Emma Love, Laquisha McFarlane, Mandi Moxie, Gabby Schultz, Hannah Wolkenhauer, and Katelyn Luther.
Deruytter, a distance runner had two top-10 finishes at the SAC Indoor Championship, placing ninth in the 3,000-meter run and fifth in the 5,000-meter run.
Love placed eighth at the 2020 SAC Indoor Championship with the weight throw with a toss of 14.07 meters.
McFarlane did not compete during the 2020 indoor season. She finished 12th in the 2019 SAC Outdoor Championship Heptathlon with 3,019 points.
Moxie was part of the Queens distance medley relay team that placed fifth at the 2020 SAC Indoor Championship.
Schultz did not compete during the 2020 indoor season.
Wolkenhauer, a distance runner, did not compete during the indoor season, but was an NCAA regional and national qualifier in cross country, placing 29th overall at the 2019 NCAA DII National Championship.
Luther did not compete during the 2020 indoor season.

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
The Queens men's track & field team brought home its third straight SAC Indoor Championship in 2020. The Royals were ranked No. 22 nationally in the final USTFCCCA indoor rankings and had five student-athletes qualify for the 2020 NCAA Division II Indoor National Championship in four events.
Eight seniors led the way for the Royals: Stefan Koheler, Anthony Raftis, Ashton Poole, Nick Kipkemei, Noah Ingalls, Kevin Harrison, Yannik Duppich, and Cole Basnight.
Koheler a multi-athlete as sidelined during the 2020 indoor season.
Raftis, a distance runner, won the 5,000-meter run and placed second in the 3,000-meter run at the 2020 SAC Indoor Championship.
Poole, a sprinter for the Royals, competed in the 60-meter dash at the 2020 SAC Indoor Championship.
Kipkemei a distance runner, did not compete during the indoor season, but placed second at the SAC Cross Country Championship and eighth at the NCAA Southeast Regional.
Ingalls competed in the 400-meter run at the 2020 SAC Indoor Championship.
Harrison placed fourth in the 400-meter run at the 2020 SAC Indoor Championship and was part of the third place 4x400-meter run team.
Duppich won the 3,000-meter and placed second in the 5,000-meter at the 2020 SAC Indoor Championship.
Basnight, a thrower, competed in the shot put and weight throw at the 2020 SAC Indoor Championship.
