SAC Softball Championship Bracket Headlined by Regular-Season Champion Pioneers
Regular-season champion Tusculum will be the No. 1 seed in the 2013 Food Lion SAC Softball Championship, which gets underway on Thursday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Tusculum Pioneers won the final game of the 2013 South Atlantic Conference softball season to claim the top seed in next weekend's Food Lion SAC Softball Championship to be held in Salisbury, N.C., on April 18-21.
Tusculum claimed the top spot in the tournament with a walkoff 4-3 win over Anderson in the conference’s season finale. The Pioneers finished conference play with a 13-5 record and are 29-16 overall. They will face eighth-seeded Lincoln Memorial (7-11 SAC, 29-20 overall) in the first round.
Anderson finished in second place by one game with a 12-6 SAC record and 35-11 mark overall. The Trojans will play seventh-seeded Wingate (9-9 SAC, 27-18-1 overall) in the first round.
Lenoir-Rhyne and Carson-Newman each finished the SAC season with 11-7 league records. The Bears and Lady Eagles split their regular season series, but Lenoir-Rhyne (30-13 overall) swept Anderson while Carson-Newman (29-15 overall) was swept by the Trojans to give L-R the third seed.
Catawba and Mars Hill also finished tied in the conference standings with 10-8 records. Catawba (29-17 overall) swept their season series with the Lions (22-14 overall) on April 6 to claim the fifth seed.
With those tiebreakers in place, third-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne will play sixth-seeded Mars Hill in the first round, while fourth-seeded Carson-Newman will play fifth-seeded Catawba.
Tickets for an all-session pass are $20 for adults ($18 with a Food Lion MVP card) and $10 for students and children. Daily passes are $8 for adults ($7 with a Food Lion MVP card) and $4 for students and children.
