DURHAM, N.C. – A total of 10 men's and women's soccer players from the SAC have been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, CoSIDA announced this week.
The Capital One Academic All-District Soccer Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Capital One Academic All-District and All-America programs are financially supported by the NCAA governance structures, in addition to assistance from CoSIDA.
The SAC had six selections to the men's All-District Team, including a pair of Anderson student-athletes - junior Lars Zimmerman and junior Mattias Schyberg. Zimmerman, whose major is undecided, carries a 3.90 GPA, while Schyberg has a 3.45 GPA studying business.
Joining the Anderson duo on the men's team are Wingate sophomore Cameron Burrows, Coker senior Brendan McCarron, Newberry junior Nick Rembowski and Queens sophomore Erick Suarez. Burrows has a perfect 4.0 GPA in marketing, McCarron carries a 3.76 GPA studying biology, Rembowski has a 3.94 GPA majoring in business administration and accounting, and Suarez has a 3.63 GPA in business administration.
Four SAC women's student-athletes earned Academic All-District accolades as well. Wingate placed two on the team in senior Chelsey Horan and junior Brandi Baldwin, while Tusculum is represented by junior Marissa Williams and Lincoln Memorial by junior Nicole McKinney.
Horan has a 3.84 GPA in management, Baldwin a 4.0 in finance, Williams carries a 3.84 GPA in education and McKinney boasts a 3.95 GPA in interdisciplinary studies and human development.
The Capital One Academic All-District III Teams also include student-athletes from the Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas. The Academic All-America Teams will be announced later this month.
