HICKORY, N.C. – Members of SAC campus student-athlete advisory committees convened on Sunday in a joint effort to continue enhancing the student-athlete experience across the conference.
Student-athletes shared ideas and provided feedback to SAC office and campus administrators on a variety of topics, including conference championships, awards and legislative proposals. Additionally, the group shared best practices on efforts to increase Make-a-Wish fundraising on campus.
"The input from this group of student-athlete leaders is invaluable to the conference," said SAC associate commissioner Eliane Keebe, who oversees the league's SAAC. "The thoughtful discussion that comes from this group helps shape much of what we do on the conference level.
"As the advocates of student-athletes from across the conference, we take what the SAAC has to say very seriously."
In total, the SAC combined to raise $20,917.40 for Make-a-Wish in 2012-13. Wingate was the conference's top fundraiser, finishing the year with $3,900 generated for the campaign. Representatives of the WU SAAC were presented with the SAC's annual Make-a-Wish fundraising award at Sunday's meeting.
As a group, the conference SAAC set a goal for 2013-14 that all 12 member institutions generate at least $2,000 for Make-a-Wish, which is the official charity of NCAA Division II.
