SAC Schools Raise over $20,000 for Make-a-Wish in 2012-13
SAC member institutions combined to raise more than $20,000 during the 2012-13 academic year for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which is the official charity of NCAA Division II. The SAC’s contributions helped push the Division II total to $517,465, representing a fundraising record for the association’s Make-a-Wish campaign.
INDIANAPOLIS – SAC member institutions combined to raise more than $20,000 during the 2012-13 academic year for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which is the official charity of NCAA Division II. The SAC's contributions helped push the Division II total to $517,465, representing a fundraising record for the association's Make-a-Wish campaign.
Led by efforts from campus student-athlete advisory committees, the SAC raised $20,917.40 for Make-a-Wish throughout the year, and was one of just five conferences that received participation from 100-percent of its member schools. In addition to on-campus efforts, the SAC also contributed proceeds from conference championship game programs to the campaign.
"I'm extremely proud of our conference for joining forces in support of this worthy initiative," said SAC commissioner Patrick Britz. "As student-athletes, coaches and administrators, we hold high our responsibility to give back to our communities, and what better cause than supporting these children."
"The strength and determination that these children possess is something that can only be attained by going through the challenges they face," added Lincoln Memorial cross country student-athlete and Division II National SAAC chair Bradley Maldonado. "It's inspiring and gives us a greater appreciation of life."
Since beginning the Make-a-Wish alliance in 2003, NCAA Division II institutions have raised for than $3 million toward granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.
