The South Atlantic Conference Announces Final Astroturf Volleyball Players of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com)– The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Volleyball Players of the week for matches played during the final week of the 2019 regular season. Tusculum's Tatum Thornton takes Player of the Week honors, while Queens Mallory Swarts was named Specialist of the Week.

Thornton, a senior middle blocker, helped lead the Pioneers to a 2-0 record in conference play this past weekend. She tallied 18 kills and 10 blocks on the weekend. Thornton recorded a career-high four solo blocks in her match against Newberry. She averaged a .351 hitting percentage overall helping to lead her team a big 3-0 win over Anderson. This is Thornton's first Player of the Week Honor this season.

A senior setter from Mooresville, N.C. Swarts helped lead the Royals to a perfect 2-0 record on the weekend, averaging 10.33 assists per set totaling to 62 assists. She tallied 32 assists and 16 digs in her three-set win over Carson-Newman, while putting up 30 assists and 10 digs against Lincoln Memorial. Swarts ranks second overall in the SAC with 957 total assists (9.97/set). This is Swarts first Specialist of the Week Honor this season.
