The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
Queens University of Charlotte’s Hannah Wolkenhauer has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Wingate University’s Alyssa Handley has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested Feb. 5-11, the League office announced today.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens University of Charlotte's Hannah Wolkenhauer has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Wingate University's Alyssa Handley has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested Feb. 5-11, the League office announced today.
Wolkenhauer, a junior from Lincoln, Neb., ran a personal best time of 9:54.08 and placed second in the 3,000-meter run at the GVSU Big Meet last week. Her time set a Queens record for the event and was an NCAA Division II provisional mark. Currently, Wolkenhauer is ranked No. 22 nationally in the 3,000-meter and is No. 1 in the SAC.
Handley, a senior from East Aurora, N.Y., took home third place in the triple jump at the JDL Team Challenge with a leap of 10.83 meters. The jump was a personal-best for Handley. She also posted a personal-best in the long jump at the VMI Winter Relays, posting a mark of 4.91 meters.
The award is Wolkenhauer's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is Handley's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
