The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Women's Soccer Players of the Week for matches played between Sept. 5 and Sept. 10. Lenoir-Rhyne forward Hannah Van Eerden was named the offensive player of the week, while Newberry goalkeeper Jayleen Gant was named defensive player of the week.
Van Eerden, a senior from Stokesdale, N.C., led the Bears to 2-0 record to being the 2019 season with wins over Lees-McRae (6-1) and USC Aiken (8-0). She found the back of the net four times in the two games, while also recording an assist for nine total points. She scored a goal and had an assist versus Lees-McRae, while recording a hat trick against USC Aiken. This is Van Eerden's first offensive player of the week honor this season.
Gant, a junior from Poway, Calif., helped guide the Wolves to a pair of wins to open the 2019 season. She made nine saves in two matches, including making two saves in a 3-0 win over Spring Hill and seven saves in a 4-2 win over Auburn Montgomery. This is Gant's first defensive player of the week accolade of the year.
