Two South Atlantic Conference Teams Appear in Final United Soccer Coaches Women's National Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The United Soccer Coaches announced its final Division II women's soccer national rankings on Tuesday (Dec. 4), with two teams representing the SAC.
Lincoln Memorial made its first appearance on the national list at No. 18 after the Railsplitters' battle in the Southeast Regional title game. The Railsplitters finished the season with a 14-5-2 record, the most wins in a season since 2007. Lincoln Memorial earned a regular-season runner-up finish and captured the SAC tournament title, the second in program history. In the NCAA tournament, the team defeated both Lander and nationally-ranked Carson-Newman on consecutive days via penalty kicks, but fell to nationally-ranked Columbus State in overtime to end 2018.
Carson-Newman (15-4-1) came in at No. 22 in the final poll after ending their season in the southeast region semifinals to Lincoln Memorial on penalty kicks. The Eagles had advanced to their fourth-straight region semifinal, taking down Catawba in the opening round. Carson-Newman was a perfect 7-0 in SAC title matches, until the Railsplitters upset them in November, and were looking for their fourth title in a row.
