Three South Atlantic Conference Teams Remain in United Soccer Coaches Women's Regional Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The United Soccer Coaches announced its sixth week of Division II women's soccer regional rankings on Tuesday (Oct. 9), with three teams representing the SAC in the southeast.
Leading the SAC teams is Carson-Newman at No. 19 nationally and No. 3 in the region. The Eagles faced SAC opponents with home-field advantage versus Tusculum and Anderson, but fell to the Pioneers 2-1 for their first regular-season conference defeat since 2014. In the same week, Carson-Newman downed the Trojans 2-0 to hand them their first SAC loss of the season.
Returning to the poll at No. 8 is Catawba. In their 2-0 week, the Catawba Indians defeated the previous regionally-ranked Wingate Bulldogs 2-1 and non-conference opponent Shaw 6-1. Seven of the eight goals were credited to different players, with the other being an own goal.
Dropping to tenth after splitting two matches during the week is Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bears won 3-0 over Coker, but came up short in the 3-1 decision against Queens. Stephanie Figueiredo accounted for half of the goals, scoring two of the four.
South Atlantic Conference action will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, October 10.
