United Soccer Coaches Announces Women's Team Academic Award Winners
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – United Soccer Coaches released the Team Academic Award winners on Thursday (Oct. 4), recognizing exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2017-18 school year.
United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year. College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster.
A total of 773 college soccer teams (289 men, 484 women) earned the honor, including 191 schools that had both their men's and women's programs among the recipients. Four women's teams from the South Atlantic Conference received the award.
Lincoln Memorial and Queens University of Charlotte are the two SAC representatives having both men's and women's teams recognized for their scholastic achievements.
Under the tutelage of Sean Fraser, the Railsplitters maintained a collective 3.30 grade-point average. This is the 17th such honor for the women's team, the 14th consecutive, including every year since joining the SAC in 2006.
Denise Brolly heads up the Royals' women's squad that earned an impressive 3.57 GPA in the academic year. Their ninth honor is their first since 2015.
The Simon Duffy-led Carson-Newman women garnered a 3.08 GPA, collecting their second-ever honor, both occurring in the last two season.
Lenoir-Rhyne, coached by Gary Higgins, accounted for a 3.43 grade-point average in 2017-18. The Bears earned their fifth United Soccer Coaches academic award in program history and for the second year in a row.
