Gage Bernall of Lander and P.J. Wunderlich of Coker Named South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Men’s Wrestlers of the Week
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Gage Bernall of Lander and P.J. Wunderlich of Coker have been selected as the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Co-Wrestler of the Week for men’s wrestling for the week ending Nov. 7.
One of three Bearcats to win first place in their weight class, Bernall impressed in his first collegiate tournament. The freshman from Lakeland, Colorado went a perfect 4-0 at 165 pounds. He began the Pembroke Open with a 6-4 decision, won his quarterfinal match 8-2 and took the semifinals 6-1. In the title match, Bernall defeated Corey Christie of Coker, a previous NCAA Div. II National qualifier, 6-3.
A senior from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Wunderlich won the 40th annual Pembroke Classic at 157 pounds. He opened the event with a pair of tech falls to advance to the semifinals. He defeated Jake Nicolosi of Mount Olive, 11-7, and clinched the title with a 3-2 win over William Lowery of UNC Pembroke.
