The South Atlantic Conference Announces 2018 Women's Lacrosse Award Winners
The South Atlantic Conference announced its 2018 women's lacrosse all-conference teams, player, coach and freshman of the year awards on Thursday (April 26).
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSac.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne goalie Ines Flueck was voted the 2018 South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Year, while Brooklyn Tilley from Catawba was voted the Conference's Freshman of the Year. In addition, Lenoir-Rhyne leader Carlee Buck was tabbed the Coach of the Year, the SAC office announced today.
Flueck, a senior from Coppell, Texas, helped lead the Bears to their first-ever SAC Regular Season Championship with a perfect 8-0 record in conference. She ranks No. 2 in the conference in goals-against average, allowing 11.16 goals per game, and she is fourth in save percentage, with a .447 save percentage. Flueck ranks seventh in the conference in saves with 119 on the year and she was a three-time SAC AstroTurf Defensive Player of the Week.
Tilley, a midfielder from Winston-Salem, N.C., becomes the fourth consecutive Catawba Indian to be named SAC Women's Lacrosse Freshman of the Year. She was one of the top offensive midfielders in the SAC scoring 34 goals with three assists for 37 points this season. She scooped up 21 ground balls, won 36 draw controls and caused 13 turnovers. With Tilley's help, the Catawba Indians earned the No. 3 seed in SAC Women's Lacrosse Championship and finished the regular season with a record 6-2 in conference.
Buck earns her first Coach of the Year honor after leading the Bears to their first-ever SAC Regular Season Title with a perfect 8-0 record in conference. Under her leadership the Bears posted the second best scoring defense in the conference, allowing 10.75 goals per game. Lenoir-Rhyne also had the second best shot percentage, hitting 46.9 percent of its shots. With Buck's guidance, the Bears had three SAC AstorTurf Offensive Players of the Week and three SAC AstroTurf Defensive Players of the Week this season.
Joining Flueck on the All-SAC First Team were attackers Faith Kent from Coker, Hanna Scott from Quees, Gabby Sousa from Lenoir-Rhyne and Olivia Hokanson from Mars Hill. At midfield were Lenoir-Rhyne's Rachel Elmore, Coker's Haley McCusker, Katie Wardle from Queens and Catawba's Nichole Hunt.
The first team defenders were Cammy Case from Queens, Zoe Zervos from Lincoln Memorial, Sierra Street of Wingate and Ashley MacIntyre from Lenoir-Rhyne.
