The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week, March 20
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens' Kelly Dowd has been selected the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, while Arion Pierre of Wingate has been selected as the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Mar. 13th – Mar. 19th, the League announced today.
Dowd, a senior from Stony Point, New York, totaled five goals and three assists for eight points as the Royal's went undefeated on the week. Queens played a tough battle with No. 13 Lock Haven in which Dowd recorded a hat trick and an assist in the 7-6 overtime victory. She also posted six ground balls and five draw controls in the contest to go along with her three caused turnovers. Against conference foe Brevard, the senior scored two goals while collecting two assists for four points. Dowd also recorded four ground balls, five draw controls, and a caused turnover in the convincing 20-6 win over Brevard. The honor marks her second Player of the Week selection this season.
Pierre, a sophomore from Haymarket, Virginia, led her team to an undefeated week thanks to her efforts in the goal. She allowed only twelve goals in 120 minutes played to finish with a save percentage of 62.5 percent. Against Edinboro (Pa.), she made nine saves while only allowing four goals in Wingate's 8-4 victory. Against Lincoln Memorial, Pierre made eleven saves in the 16-8 victory over the Railsplitters. The honor marks her first Player of the Week selection this season.
