Anderson and Newberry Women's Basketball Ranked Nationally, Regional Rankings Released by D2SIDA
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's women's basketball team continues their climb in the latest D2SIDA national rankings, tabbed at No. 13, while tabbed No. 21 by WBCA. Newberry joined the poll for the second week at No. 25.
The Trojans (14-2, 8-0 SAC) are on a 12-game winning streak, including two conference games during the week to advance up in the national standings. Anderson is third in Division II with 46.81 rebounds per game. The Trojans are also fourth nationally in defensive rebounds per game with 32 and sixth with 749 total rebounds.
Individually across Division II, junior guard Alexy Mollenhauer ranks second in total rebounds with 190, while also ranking fifth in double-doubles (10), fifth in defensive rebounds per game (9.0), and seventh in rebounds per game (11.9). The Lindale, Texas native has earned the SAC AstroTurf Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season.
The Wolves (11-2, 5-1 SAC) have made their second consecutive appearance of the season in the national rankings via D2SIDA poll. Nationally, Newberry are second in defensive rebounds per game, averaging 32 per contest.
Individually, Shelby Britten ranks third across Division II in three-point field goals per game with 3.54. Meg Essex is ninth in the nation averaging three blocks per game.
In the D2SIDA southeast regional rankings, five of the top-six spots belonged to SAC teams. Anderson held on to the No.1 spot, while Newberry maintained third. Carson-Newman and Tusculum tied for fourth, and Wingate collected the No. 6 ranking.
The Trojans (14-2, 8-0 SAC) are the No. 1 team in the region for the second week and No. 13/21 in the nation, receiving all six of the first-place votes in the southeast. On the week, Anderson topped two strong SAC foes on the road: regionally-ranked Carson-Newman 84-81 and nationally-ranked Newberry 62-47.
The Wolves (11-2, 5-1 SAC) are holding steady at third in the region and maintain their No. 25 spot in latest D2SIDA national poll. The team took down Queens 89-82 but lost to nationally-ranked Anderson 62-47.
The Eagles (12-4, 5-3 SAC) are in a tied at No. 4 in the southeast. Carson-Newman opened the week with a loss to nationally-ranked Anderson 84-81 but ended with a win at Queens 65-62.
The Pioneers (11-2, 4-2 SAC) skyrocket to a tie for No. 4 spot due to dominating wins over Mars Hill and Coker. Tusculum downed the Lions by 33 and the Cobras by 14.
The Bulldogs (10-4, 5-2 SAC) fall to No. 6 in the region despite their win over SAC foe Lenoir-Rhyne by a 16-point margin of victory.
