Five South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Teams Scattered Throughout D2SIDA Southeast Region Poll
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference posted five teams in the third week of the Division II Sports Information Directors Association (D2SIDA) southeast regional rankings. Wingate jumped to No. 2, while Carson-Newman fell to a tie for third and received one first place vote. Newberry rose to No. 5, Anderson joined the poll at No. 8, and Tusculum dropped to tenth.
The Bulldogs shot up six places due to wins over Coker and No. 11/16 Carson-Newman. Wingate defeated the Cobras by 34 points and the nationally-ranked Eagles by nine in a close contest.
The Eagles split the week against conference opponents. Carson-Newman beat Lincoln Memorial, but fell to regionally-ranked Wingate.
The Wolves are steadily climbing the charts with their perfect 7-0 (3-0 SAC) record, winning games against Catawba and Mars Hill by a collective 34 points. During the week, senior center Meg Essex became the first-ever conference women's basketball player to earn USBWA National Player of the Week recognition.
The Trojans are making their first appearance of the season in the poll. Anderson collected wins over regionally-ranked Tusculum by 13 points and at Queens by 21 points. Junior guard Alexy Mollenhauer is the reigning SAC AstroTurf player of the week for the second time this season.
The Pioneers lost twice in the past week, causing them to fall to No. 10. While both games were contested, Tusculum was defeated by regionally-ranked Anderson and Catawba.
