Newberry's Essex Named USBWA Division II Women's Basketball National Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) announced its weekly awards on Tuesday (Nov. 27). Newberry's Meg Essex garnered the National Player of the Week honor to go along with her SAC Player of the Week.
A senior center, Essex has powered the Wolves to a 5-0 start, including a road win in the first SAC game of the season. In match up with Lenoir-Rhyne, the Glamorgan Vale, Queensland, Australia native finished with 31 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block. At Lees-McRae, Essex racked up 21 points, 19 rebounds, six assists, one steal, and six blocks.
