The South Atlantic Conference Announces Seeds for 2018 Women's Basketball Championship
Carson-Newman ranked No. 3 in the nation, won its first South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Title since the 1991-92 season as it captured the 2017-18 Championship. With the title, the Eagles have earned the No. 1 seed in next week’s South Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, it was determined today as the Conference season concluded this afternoon.
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman ranked No. 3 in the nation, won its first South Atlantic Conference Regular Season Title since the 1991-92 season as it captured the 2017-18 Championship. With the title, the Eagles have earned the No. 1 seed in next week's South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship, it was determined today as the Conference season concluded this afternoon. Carson-Newman finished the season with an 18-2 League record.
Wingate finished in second with a 17-3 in record in conference, earning the No. 2 seed in SAC Championship. Anderson's 13-7 SAC record was good for the No. 3 seed and at No. 4 was Lincoln Memorial who finished the 2017-18 season SAC season with a 12-8 mark. Catawba landed at No. 5 in the bracket as it went 12-8 on the SAC season. Lincoln Memorial won the tiebreaker over Catawba by virtue of its win over Carson-Newman on Feb. 21. Tusculum and Newberry finished the SAC season with identical 11-9 records. The Pioneers earned the No. 6 seed and won the tiebreaker with the Wolves, thanks to their win over Anderson on Jan. 18, giving the Wolves the No. 7 seed. Lenoir-Rhyne, rounded out the bracket with the No. 8 seed. The Bears finished the regular SAC season with a record of 9-11.
The 2018 South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Wednesday (Feb. 28), before moving to Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. for the semifinals and finals on March 3 and 4. The South Atlantic Conference's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament. The SAC Women's Basketball Championship schedule is as follows:
