The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, Mar. 14
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Allie Jones of Lincoln Memorial was tabbed the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, while Brianna Taylor of Lincoln Memorial was selected as the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Mar. 6th-Mar 12th, the League announced today.
Jones, a sophomore from Ooltewah, Tennessee, played well during the Railsplitters 4-2 week. She put together nine hits and nine runs through all match-ups while also contributing three home runs and ten RBI. Against USciences, Jones had her best game of the week as she recorded three hits, three runs, two home runs, and six RBI. Her six RBI last Saturday were the second-most in a game in program history. For the week, she had a batting average of .500 coupled with her slugging percentage of 1.056. The honor marks her first Player of the Week selection this season.
Taylor, a junior from Ooltewah, Tennessee, allowed only six runs in 24 innings pitched last week. She pitched three complete games as she only pitched five innings in a narrow 7-6 loss to West Liberty. Against Bluefield State, Taylor pitched a shutout on the way to striking out eight batters and allowing only three hits. For the week, she totaled fifteen strikeouts during the four-game stretch. Taylor's efforts now put her at No. 5 in the League with eight wins on the year. The honor marks her first Player of the Week selection this season.
