Wingate Sweeps Men's and Women's Cross Country Southeast Regional; Le Grix and Jones Crowned Individual Champions
Oakwood, Ga.-The Wingate University men's cross country team had a perfect score of 15 on the way to its third consecutive NCAA Division II Southeast Region championship at the University of North Georgia Cross Country Course Saturday. Wingate's seven student-athletes finished first through seventh, led by junior individual champion Titouan Le Grix.
Le Grix completed the 10K course with a new school-record time of 28:45.0 as each of the seven Bulldog finishers lowered junior All-American Scott Nutter's previous standard of 30:16.1 set in the 2022 NCAA Division II national championship meet. In his Wingate cross country debut, freshman Hamza Chahid finished second with his 10K time of 28:55.3. Chahid edged senior teammate Soheil Boufrizi by 0.3 seconds. The 2022 South Atlantic Conference individual XC champion, Boufrizi took third place with his 28:55.6 clocking.
Rounding out the men's top-10 individual finishers for the SAC was Catawba's Erick Ramirez, finishing eighth.
The Wingate University women's cross country team won its second consecutive NCAA Division II Southeast Region championship title, as seven-of-seven Bulldogs made the 25-member All-Southeast Region team, led by senior silver medalist Mollie Scott. Catawba's Mikayla Jones was the individual champion in the 6K race with her time of 21:11.7.
Wingate's Scott posted a personal-best 6K time of 21:16.7 on the way to her second-place showing. Bulldog freshman Sira Bo claimed the bronze medal, also posting a PR with her 6K time of 21:27.6. Catawba's Madison Clay finished fourth, while Lenoir-Rhyne's Sabrina Fleig took fifth. Rounding out the women's top-10 individual finishers for the SAC was Wingate's Ona Alonso in sixth, Wingate's Tatjana Mense in seventh, and Catawba's Raina Andrews in eighth.
The Division II national championship meet will take place November 18th at the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course in Joplin, Missouri.
