Queens' Noall and Wallis Named SAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athletes of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens University of Charlotte's Lucie Noall was voted the South Atlantic Conference Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while fellow Royal Daniel Wallis was named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced today.
The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports, and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
Noall, a senior biology major, has a 3.95 grade point average. She is a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, a three-time SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll selection and she has been named to the Royals AD Honor Roll three times.
"Lucie is one of the hardest working individuals we have, both in the classroom and on the track," said Queens head men's and women's cross country coach Tom Scott. "She has dreams and aspirations to become a veterinarian one day, and she has worked incredibly hard at making that happen. That hard work, combined with the accolades and honors that she has collected throughout her career, makes her an amazing student-athlete. She sets the bar high for future Royals and the honor of Scholar-Athlete of the Year is well deserved."
On the course, Noall has had an outstanding senior season and collegiate career. In 2018, she placed seventh overall at the SAC Women's Cross Country Championship and helped the Royals secure their third straight SAC title. She also guided the Royals to the 2018 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championship, their second in as many years, and a tenth place finish at the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship. She earned her fourth consecutive All-SAC and All-Region honors this season and placed 51st at the NCAA DII National Championship.
A native of Clarksburg, Md., Noall is very active in her hometown community and the Queens University of Charlotte community. She is a youth mentor in the Catholic Diocese of Charlotte, is a Rotaract Club member and is the vice president of the Queens Pre-Vet Club. Additionally, Noall is a student leader for the Royals' Phonathon which helps raise funds for Queens student scholarships.
Wallis, a senior communications major from Guilford, United Kingdom, has a perfect 4.0 GPA. He is a member of the Royal Society, is a SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll selection and is part of the Queens Gold Standard Program. Additionally, Wallis holds a bachelors degree in materials engineering from Loughborough University in England.
"Daniel is the definition of student-athlete," said Queens head men's and women's cross country coach Tom Scott. He does a wonderful job in the classroom and is an All-American on the track. It has been such a pleasure working with Daniel. He sets the standard high for future Royals cross country and track and field athletes. We are very proud of his accomplishments and winning Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is well deserved."
The 2018 SAC Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year, Wallis led the Royal men to their second consecutive conference championship and to the 2018 NCAA Southeast Region Championship. He earned all-conference and all-region honors for the second straight year, and behind his leadership the Royals placed ninth at the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship.
Off the cross country course, Wallis has been an active member of the community. He has volunteered at schools talking about being a student-athlete and competing at the national level, he is a member of the Rotaract Volunteer Group and he works with the Queens Alumni Outreach Team, which helps raise funds for student scholarships at Queens.
