The South Atlantic Conference Announces Site and Date for Inaugural Indoor Track and Field Championships
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The inaugural South Atlantic Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, the League announced today. The facility will also host the championships in 2019 with an option for 2020.
"We are thrilled to add our 19th and 20th championships," said South Atlantic Conference Commissioner Patrick Britz. The SAC's growth over the last 10 years has been great and we are happy to offer more student-athletes another opportunity to compete for a championship starting in 2017-18."
JDL Fast Track is quickly becoming one of the premier indoor track and field facilities in the southeast. To date, the facility has hosted two NCAA National Championships, including the 2014 Division II and 2015 Division III National Indoor Meets. JDL Fast track also hosted the 2016 NJCAA Indoor T&F Championships and will host the the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in 2021.
The dedicated indoor track and field facility, which opened in January 2012, houses a 200-meter oval track with a Mondotrack FTX surface—the same surface that was used at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Field event areas include two pole vault runways, two long/triple jump runways, one high jump apron and one throws area.
The facility also includes a 100-meter warm-up track, a training room and hospitality suites for coaches' or conference officials' meetings at large events.
"We are very excited to have been selected to host the inaugural South Atlantic Indoor Track and Field Championships," said JDL Fast Track Facility Director Craig Longhurst. "We hope to partner with the Conference for years to come and grow this event with them."
The 2019 South Atlantic Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships are scheduled to be held on Monday, Feb. 18.
