Carson-Newman Sweeps SAC AstroTurf Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Devon Moore was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and teammate Joseph Oreva was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the third week of the indoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
Moore, a senior sprinter from Baxley, Ga., turned in two NCAA Division II provisional times in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter run. Moore won the 60-meter at both the Buccaneer Invitational and the Run As Fast As You Can Meet over the weekend. His winning time at the Buccaneer was 6.80 seconds and his time at the Run As Fast As You Can Meet was 6.97 seconds. Moore also won the 200-meter at the Buccaneer with a time of 21.89 seconds.
Oreva, a freshman jumper from Nigeria, set a new Carson-Newman long jump record and turned in an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark with a leap of 7.84 meters at the Buccaneer Invitational. His jump not only is top in the SAC, but in all of NCAA Division II.
The award is Moore's first Track Athlete of the Week honor this season, and it is Oreva's first Field Athlete of the Week honor this season.
