Wingate Crowned 2018 SAC Men's Tennis Champions
The second-seeded Wingate University men's tennis team claimed a 5-2 upset victory Saturday afternoon when they downed top-seeded Queens University of Charlotte in the South Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament, hosted by Newberry College at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.

CAYCE, S.C. - The second-seeded Wingate University men's tennis team claimed a 5-2 upset victory Saturday afternoon when they downed top-seeded Queens University of Charlotte in the South Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament, hosted by Newberry College at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center. With the victory, the Bulldogs earn an automatic berth into the NCAA national tournament.
Wingate, the No. 10 team in the country, improves to 19-5 overall, while No. 15 Queens drops to 13-4.
Queens jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles competition after the No. 2 team of Andor Vas/Kasper Rolfsen downed Wingate's Enrico/Giacomini, 8-4; and No. 3 Agustin Aran Martin/Sebastian Meum downed the Bulldogs' Matthew Jones/Josep Canyadell, 8-5. Wingate's lone double's point was at the No. 1 position where Daniel Belsito/Josh DuToit defeated Queens' Julian Bosch/Joel Dunlap, 8-4.
But the Bulldogs stormed back in the singles competition for four victories and the overall win.
In singles, No. 1 Daniel Belsito (W) def. Andor Vas (Q), 6-2, 6-4; No. 4 Enrico Giacomini (W) def. Sebastian Meum (Q), 7-5, 6-3; No. 5 Josh DuToit (W) def. Kasper Rolfsen (Q), 6-1, 6-2; and No. 6. Tamir Geva (W) def. Joel Dunlap (Q), 6-3, 6-0. The Nos. 2 and 3 matches were called when Wingate achieved the needed points to win the match.
The Bulldogs' Josh DuToit was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
