Eight SAC Student-Athletes Named to Google Cloud Academic All-District© Men's Soccer Team
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Eight South Atlantic Conference student-athletes have been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Division II Men's Soccer Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Leading the way were Queens with three honorees and Tusculum with two.
The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
District 3, comprised of the Peach Belt, Conference Carolinas, and the South Atlantic Conference, had 12 spots to fill, eight of which were claimed by the SAC.
Queens had three selections: senior forward Adam Ward has a 3.83 GPA in business administration, sophomore defender Will Martin with a 3.97 GPA in communications, and senior defender Pedro Oliveira with a 3.87 GPA in psychology.
Tusculum had two honorees: senior midfielder Ivan Andabak with a 3.93 GPA in business management & administration and junior defender Pau Peiro with a 3.86 GPA in chemistry.
Newberry's senior midfielder Fabrizio Bucco garnered honors with a 3.82 GPA in business administration/international studies.
Senior midfielder Ruben Morillas of Lenoir-Rhyne earned recognition with a 4.00 GPA in business administration.
Carson-Newman's graduate goalkeeper Twan Verweij has a 3.88 GPA in his masters of business administration.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if necessary) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The Division II and III Google Cloud Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
