Five South Atlantic Conference Teams Present in United Soccer Coaches Men's Regional Rankings
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The United Soccer Coaches announced its fifth week of Division II men's soccer regional rankings on Tuesday (Oct. 2), with five teams representing the SAC in the southeast.
Queens University of Charlotte leads the way for the conference, moving up to third in the region and gaining a national ranking at No. 20. On the week, the Royals drew a scoreless tie with No. 10 Lander and defeated conference opponent Coker by a score of 4-1. Newly-minted SAC AstroTurf Offensive Player of the Week Adam Ward earned a hat trick within 11 minutes after coming off the bench in the 33rd minute of action. He also assisted on the remaining goal for seven points in the contest.
Gaining two spots in the poll is No. 4 Carson-Newman. The Eagles had a balanced attack in their 2-1 win over Alabama-Huntsville. Both goals and their respective assists came from four different Eagles.
Lenoir-Rhyne regained a place and is now No. 6 after splitting their week's opponents. The Bears fell 2-1 to No. 3 Young Harris in a non-conference tilt, but garnered a 3-1 win over SAC foe and regionally-ranked Wingate.
Wingate dropped to the No. 8 spot after a 3-1 loss to regionally-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne in their only action of the week.
Once again, Closing out the regional poll at No. 10 is Mars Hill. The Lions picked up a 6-2 victory over fellow SAC member Catawba. All six goals came from different Mars Hill players, but two Lions were credited with two assists apiece.
South Atlantic Conference action will continue tomorrow, Wednesday, October 3.
