The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for games played during Feb. 4 through Feb. 10. Coker's Joe Venazio garnered the offensive honors, while Newberry's Justin Messersmith earned the defensive accolade.
A sophomore attack, Venazio now owns the Coker goals in a game record (8) and tied the record of 11 points in a game in the 25-8 win over Chowan. In the two games the Cobras played, the Myrtle Beach, S.C. collected nine goals, three assists, and two ground balls. This is Venazio's first Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
A senior midfielder, Messersmith collected two school-records, ground balls (16) and face-off wins (24), in the Wolves' 20-14 win over Barton. The Stevensville, Md. native also caused two turnovers and tallied an assist. This is Messersmith's first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season.
