Carson-Newman Moves Atop the Leaderboard After Day Two of SAC Men's Golf Championship
Carson-Newman leads the 2018 SAC Men‘s Golf Championship following second-round action at Cobb’s Glen Country Club. Anderson's Jake Miller continues to lead race for individual medalist honors.
ANDERSON, S.C. – Paced by sophomore Tom Forster's two-day 1-under-par 143, Carson-Newman leads the 2018 SAC Men's Golf Championship following second-round action at Cobb's Glen Country Club. The three-day, three-round event is being hosted by Anderson University on a par-72, 7,002-yard layout.
With the 11-team field playing under overcast skies and a cold drizzling rain for much of the morning, the Eagles (591) moved up a pair of spots by posting the third-lowest round of the tournament to claim first place by one stroke over Newberry (592). The Wolves began the day in sixth place, but vaulted into second place on the strength of 1-under-par 71s from both senior Carlos Leandro and Spencer Skiff.
Wingate (594) moved up three slots into third place and is just three shots off the pace set by Carson-Newman, while trailing Newberry by only two shots heading into Tuesday's final round. Queens (598) is in fourth place, while 16th-ranked Lincoln Memorial (600) is two strokes further back in fifth place.
Lenoir-Rhyne (605) and the host Trojans (605) share sixth place, while Coker (607), Catawba (608), Mars Hill (613) and Tusculum (652) finished out the standings after day two.
Anderson sophomore Jake Miller, who is 5-under-par after two rounds, continues to lead in the hunt for individual medalist honors, with Mars Hill's Harry Butler (142) and Queens' Henry Bryden (142) three shots behind. Forster (143) is fourth place, while Leandro and Wingate's Tim Bombosch are at even-par after the second round.
The third and final round of the SAC Men's Golf Championship is slated to get underway Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
