Fifteen SAC Football Players Earn D2CCA All-Region Honors, Wingate's Rawlings Named Defensive Player of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The 2018 Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Super Region 2 Football teams were announced on Friday (Nov. 30).
Fifteen South Atlantic Conference football student-athletes where named to the all-region teams, with Wingate's Cardell Rawlings leading the way as the 2018 D2CCA Super Region 2 Defensive Player of the Year.
Rawlings, a 2018 Harlon Hill Award nominee, finished the year ranked second in the nation in sacks with 17 and seventh in tackles for loss with 22. This is the second Defensive Player of the Year honor for the senior from Smithfield, N.C., as he was named SAC Defensive Player of the Year earlier this year.
Joining Rawlings on the first team were offensive selections Craig Rucker from Mars Hill and Jason Poe from Lenoir-Rhyne, while Newberry's Jamarcus Henderson was a first team selection on defense.
Earning second team honors on offense were Catawba's Jourdan Osinskie, Carson-Newman's Antonio Wimbush and Phillip McDowell, Wingate's Johnathon Black, Tusculum's Keveon Broadwater and Lenoir-Rhyne's Kyle Dugger.
On the defensive side of the ball were second team selections Joe Blue and Shea Rodgers from Newberry, Temoris Coats of Carson-Newman, Limestone's Joshua Simmons and Wingate's Davion Washington.
