Catawba Blows Past Young Harris in Regional Opener
NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Catawba Indians exploded for nine runs on 12 hits to defeat the Young Harris Mount Lions, 9-2 in the opening game of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional hosted by Newberry.
Heath Mitchum and Bryce Butler lead the way for the Indians at the plate, while Bryan Ketchie was lights out on the mound. Mitchum finished the night with a pair of hits including a triple and three RBIs, while Buttler was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Ketchie (9-1) went the distance, allowing just two runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in nine innings of work.
Catawba moves to the winners bracket game at 7 p.m. on Friday (May 17) at Newberry College.
Elliott Shines in Lincoln Memorial's 3-1 Win Over Mount Olive
TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Linocln Memorial's Ethan Elliott was nearly untouchable on Thrusday (May 16) night as he led the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters to a 3-1 win over Mount Olive in the opening round of the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by North Greenville.
Elliott (12-2) allowed just one run while scattering five hits with 12 strikeouts to earn the complete game win for the Railsplitters.
Joe Stucky paced the LMU offense with a pair of hits, including a homr run with an RBI and two runs scored.
The Railplitters advance to the winners bracket game at 8 p.m. on Friday (May 17) at North Greenville Univeristy.
