The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Mars Hill catcher Matt Honeycutt has been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week, and Anderson right-handed pitcher Andrew Dill and Catawba right-handed pitcher DJ Laxton have been named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Co-Pitchers of the Week for games played March 26-April 1, the League announced today.

Honeycutt, a junior from China Grove, N.C., led the Lions to a 4-2 record last week, including a three-game SAC sweep of Coker. He was nearly unstoppable at the plate, batting .667 with seven of his 14 hits going for extra bases. He had six home runs and a double, scored 10 runs and drove in 14 runs for the week. He also posted a 1.571 slugging percentage and a .724 on-base percentage.

Dill, a senior from Hilton Head Island, S.C., tossed a complete game, two hit shutout against conference leader Catawba. He went seven innings; allowed just two singles, had three walks and struck out a season-high eight batters.

Laxton, a sophomore from Asheboro, N.C., picked up three wins on the mound for Catawba last week, all in relief. He went three innings, giving up just one hit with no runs against Mars Hill and he picked up both of Catawba's wins against Anderson, throwing a total of three and a third innings over two games, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts. For the week, he was 3-0, throwing six and a third innings, allowing only two hits with three walks and three strikeouts. 

These are the first Player of the Week honors for Honeycutt, Dill and Laxton.
