Trojans Impressive in Home Opener, Defeat North Georgia; 2-1

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team set the tone early scoring in the 13th minute on its way to an exciting, 2-1, victory over Peach Belt Conference opponent North Georgia Friday night at Trojan Stadium.

The victory marks the second straight win for the Trojans over North Georgia and fourth overall, as the Black and Gold improve to 2-1 on the season. With the loss, North Georgia falls to 2-2 overall.

Anderson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on freshman Thomas Joergsholm's second goal of the season. Joergsholm was able to convert junior Cameron Emerson's well placed cross at the 13:38 mark. The score remained 1-0 at the end of the first 45 minutes of play.

The Black and Gold came out firing in the second half taking six straight shots. For the game, Anderson outshot the Nighthawks 23-16 with UNG holding a slight edge in corner kicks, 6-5.

North Georgia evened things up in the 73rd minute on touch pass that squirted through the Black and Gold defenders finding the foot of Carl Ludwig Eriksson. Eriksson finished the play finding the back of the net giving the Nighthawks new life.

With the match all square,1-1, sophomore Landon Goodman capitalized on a game winning opportunity as he fired a shot past North Georgia's keeper Matt Sharman. Junior Juan Restrepo placed a perfect ball to feed Goodman streaking down the left side of the field for the Trojans.

The Nighthawks managed to take three more shots over the remaining seven minutes. Each shot stopped by the Trojans stellar defensive effort.

Both goalies had a fantastic night with each recording seven saves a piece. Anderson's Gal Elyashiv recorded three saves in the first half and four in the remaining 45 minutes to pick up his second win of the season.

The Trojans look to continue their impressive play when they welcome Lander to the Electric City on Wednesday. Kickoff from Trojan Stadium is slated for 7:30 p.m.
