SALISBURY, N.C. – The Coker College women's lacrosse team improved to 8-3 on the season and 4-1 in South Atlantic Conference play after taking down the Catawba College Indians by a score of 15-9 on Wednesday (Mar. 29).

Lindsay Ordemann put Coker on the board in the opening minute, scoring an unassisted goal and lifting the Cobras to a 1-0 lead. After a response by Catawba, back-to-back goals by Haley McCusker and Karah Huntsinger put the Cobras ahead 3-1 with 24:41 left in the first half. Two-straight goals by Catawba tied the game up at 3-3 with 20 minutes left. The Navy and Gold proceeded to outscore the Indians by a score of 5-1 to close the half and put the Cobras ahead 8-4 as the two sides departed to the locker rooms for the half.

Three-straight goals by Marabeth Durden put the Cobras ahead 11-5 with 22:59 left in the second half. Catawba closed the gap to 11-7 with 19:43 left, however, McCusker stalled the Catawba comeback with her third goal of the game, putting Coker ahead 12-7 with 12:43 left. Two goals by Faith Kent and one by Bailey O'Brien propelled the Cobras ahead to the eventual 15-9 win.

Durden put together an all-around performance, scoring four goals, scooping up eight ground balls and causing two turnovers. McCusker finished with three goals, while Mackenzie Baker and Kent each scored two goals. O'Brien, Ordemann, Huntsinger and Claudia Jenkins rounded out the Coker attack, scoring one goal each.

In the field, Kaitlyn Kimball caused four turnovers and scooped up four ground balls. Baker and Kent led way with five and three won draw controls each.

Between the pipes, Cassie Williams recorded 11 saves in 60 minutes.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 1) at 7 p.m. to welcome Belmont Abbey.
