Tusculum defeats Brevard 8-1 to improve to 2-0 in SAC

BREVARD, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's tennis team defeated Brevard College 8-1 in a South Atlantic Conference match Thursday afternoon.

The Pioneers (5-2, 2-0 SAC) won two of the three doubles pro sets, then swept all six singles matches in straight sets from the Tornados (2-7, 0-4 SAC).

In doubles, the team of Tashique Kader and Leon Seiz defeated Will Christiansen and Cre Still 8-2 at flight two, while David Siegle and Yago Fernandez teamed for an 8-3 win over Tim Hengst and Chris Plasa at flight three.

In singles, Kader beat Still 6-3, 6-2 at flight one, Fernandez downed Tom Mittring 6-3, 7-5 at flight two and Toby de Klerk downed JR Davis 6-1, 6-3 at flight three. Eduardo Munoz was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Hengst at flight four, Fabian Paier defeated Plasa 6-2, 6-1 at flight five and Gabriel Bernardi bested Christiansen at flight six by a 6-4, 7-5 score.

The Pioneers will play their home conference opener on Saturday against Lenoir-Rhyne starting at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
