Trojans Win Overtime Thriller at Lincoln Memorial; 2-1

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Anderson University women's soccer came from behind to claim its third win in a row winning 2-1 over South Atlantic Conference opponent Lincoln Memorial on Saturday evening at Sansom Field.

With the win, Anderson moves to 3-4 overall and 3-0 in SAC play while Lincoln Memorial falls to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

The Railsplitters struck first late in the first half off of a corner kick by Itzel Ballesteros. LMU's Mariana Diaz directed the kick in just off the side to put the Railspitters up 1-0.

Anderson scored the equalizer in the 58th minute on freshman Maggie Black's cross to junior Bethany Morgan. Morgan's goal was her first of the season.

LMU narrowly ended the match in the 89th minute with Maria Hernandez's shot hitting the crossbar.

The Trojans needed just 40 seconds extra time to end the match when sophomore Gabbie Fleming pushed a long pass up the center of the field finding sophomore Kirsten Armetta. Armetta was able to strike it past the keeper scoring the golden goal.

Anderson's Abby Helm was credited with four saves on the evening while LMU's Ann-Marie O'Connell had two stops.

The Black and Gold return home to host SAC foe Queens on Wednesday. Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m.
