No. 4 LMU leads wire-to-wire in 91-73 win over Tusculum in SAC opener

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- All five starters scored in double figures including a game-high 21 points from Trevon Shaw to lead the fourth-ranked Lincoln Memorial men's basketball team to a 91-73 road win over in-state foe Tusculum Wednesday night in the South Atlantic Conference opener at Pioneer Arena.

LMU (6-0, 1-0 SAC) remains one of three undefeated teams in the conference while posting its 22nd consecutive victory over the Pioneers (2-5, 0-1 SAC) a streak dating back to 2009.

The Railsplitters led wire-to-wire and used a 19-0 run over a span of 6:28 before taking a 53-22 lead into the locker room.  LMU shot 19-of-35 from the field in the opening 20 minutes for 54.3 percent, including 8-of-14 from three-point land.  Meanwhile, TC shot 28 percent from the floor in the first half going 9-of-32, including 3-of-16 from downtown (18.8%).

Shaw knocked down four of his six 3-pointers in the opening half as he tallied 14 points at the break, while teammate Emanuel Terry had 11 of his 20 points in the first half.

The Pioneers made it interesting in the second half as the Black & Orange outscored LMU 51-38 in the final period.  TC trimmed a 34-point deficit under 20 points in three occasions including as close as 18 twice.  Tusculum finished the second half shooting a sizzling 59.3 percent from the field, including 9-of-16 from three-point land (56.3%).

Tusculum was led in scoring by junior Zach Hartle, who poured in 16 points and shot 6-of-7 from the field, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arch.  Junior Malik Tyree added 10 points and four assists off the bench, while Donovan Donaldson had eight points and three helpers for the Pioneers.

For LMU, Terry finished the night with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Dorian Pinson finished with 10 points and 10 boards.  Josh Odem and Cornelius Taylor tallied 14 and 12 points, respectively for the visitors.

Tusculum distributed the ball well for a second straight game as the Pioneers had 21 assists on their 25 made field goals.  TC accounted for 12 three-points, while the Railsplitters had 11 treys on the night.

LMU out-rebounded Tusculum by a 43-33 margin and had 14 offensive boards resulting into 17 second-chance points. LMU out-scored TC 44-22 in the paint, but the Pioneers had a 40-14 advantage in bench scoring.

The Pioneers will face their second nationally-ranked opponent on Saturday afternoon when No. 2 Queens University of Charlotte comes to Greeneville for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
