Eagles head to Sumter, S.C. to Compete in Day One of the ITA Regionals

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newman will head back to Sumter, S.C., to try their hand at the 2022 ITA regionals.

Ana Carla Resende returns to Sumter as the third-seeded player for the second year in a row. Resende will hope to continue her success from last year's action at the ITA Regionals. Resende will receive a first-round bye on day one of action.

"I think that the third seed reflects the good season we had last year," Resende said. "I hope to have a good performance at this year's tournament."

Resende made it to the semifinals without dropping a single set. She then went on to face the number one seed in Luisa Hrda. Resende battled against Hrda. She lost the first set 6-3 but bounced back in the second set, winning 6-5. She fell in the tie-breaking set against Hrda 7-6 in a hard-fought loss.

Violetta Khisamova enters the scene as the 32nd-seeded player. She will receive a first-round bye and play in her first set at 5:00 P.M. in the round of 64.

Fellow Eagle, Natasha Forrest, saw similar success at the ITA regionals. Forrest made it to the round of 16 in the consolation bracket. Forrest will compete against Silvia Fernadez at 11:30 A.M. in this year's go-around.

"We've been working hard in practices, so the next few days should be successful for us," Forrest said. "Our communication has been getting better as a team. We know what to expect from ourselves and one another."

Summer Reeves will see the first action for the Eagles as she kicks things off at 11:30 A.M. against Aina Mirailes of Newberry College. Anita Chornei will play at noon against Elizabeth Vollmin. Maria Ulloa will also face off against Leonie Floeth of Tusculum Univerisity at noon.

Julia Speiser will end the round of 128 action for the Eagles at 1:00 P.M. when she takes on Anna Goncaves of Emmanuel College.

Forrest and Resende enter as the 16th-seeded pair in the tournament. They will get a first-round bye and will wait to play until Saturday at 8:00 A.M.

"The doubles matchups have been working really well," Forrest said. "We will definitely be tough to beat on that front."

Summer Reeves and Mollie Edge will begin doubles action for the Eagles at 8:00 A.M. on Friday. They will face the duo of Nele weber and Liza Voloshyna from The University of Mount Olive.

Anita Chornei and Violetta Khisamova will continue play for the Eagles at 9:00 A.M. against Catawba College's Carolina Correia and Vicky Beardsley.
