HOW IT HAPPENED

Innings 1-3

Already leading the nation in homeruns as a team, Limestone added one more to its season tally when Strovink crushed a three-run blast over the rightfield wall in the bottom of the first. However, the Trojans countered with a pair of runs in the top of the second to cut the margin to 3-2 early on.

In the home half of the third, Piazza doubled into the left-centerfield gap to leadoff the frame before Orth staked the Blue and Gold to a 5-2 advantage with a two-run homerun – his third dinger of the year.

Innings 4-6

The Saints added a single run in the fourth after junior Brandon Etheridge (Cartersville, Ga.) scored from third on a wild pitch, but Anderson would keep it close with a single marker in the fifth.

Then with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Saints rallied for a three-spot to put the game out of reach. Following two straight base knocks, Strovink chased both runners home after ripping a double down the rightfield chalk before Allen followed with an RBI double down the opposite line to make 9-3.

Innings 7-9

Anderson platted three runs in the seventh, and threatened to score more after loading the bases with three outs. However, senior southpaw Jalen Byrd (Shelby, N.C.) got the third out looking at the plate to retire the side with the bases full of Trojans.

Creps drove in an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh, doubling home a runner from third to stake the Saints to a 10-6 lead. Anderson pushed one run across before bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but sophomore Eric Mullinax (Greenville, S.C.) got the final batter swinging to secure the win.

TURNING POINT

Limestone set the tone early as it jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind Strovink's three-run blast in the first. The Saints would not surrender that lead the rest of the way.
