Trojans Defeat No. 22 Wingate; 63-53

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University women's basketball team claimed a, 63-53, victory over No. 22 Wingate in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

With the victory, Anderson improves to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in conference action while Wingate drops to 11-3 overall and 5-2 SAC play.

Anderson junior Erika Martin paced the Trojans with a career high 15 points while pulling down seven rebounds. Martin shot 7-of-10 from the floor and added one free throw in two attempts. Sophomore Alexy Mollenhauer shared team-high honors with Martin scoring 15 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Freshman Taylor Hair corralled a career high 10 rebounds while matching her career high in points with eight.

Wingate placed three players in double-figures with Courtney Robinson scoring a game-high 16 points. Caroline Averette and Zasha Barrett chipped in 14 and 10, respectively.

Anderson led wire-to-wire building a nine point half-time lead after Mollenhauer connected on back-to-back 3-point baskets to end the second quarter.

The Trojans continued their solid play during the final two periods staving off any pursuit the Bulldogs attempted. AU enjoyed its largest advantage of the afternoon on a made jumper by Martin with 5:17 left in the contest. The Bulldogs put together a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to, 57-50, with under 3-minutes to play. However, the Black and Gold hit 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

-The Trojans eight free throw attempts were the lowest attempts of the season.
-Anderson has won three straight over the Bulldogs.
-The Black and Gold are 10-1 when leading at the half.

Anderson remains at home to host SAC opponent Mars Hill on Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.
