Softball Drops Two Road Contests

YOUNG HARRIS, GA. – Anderson University softball dropped two nonconference games on the road against different opponents losing game one, 3-2, against Auburn Montgomery while losing game two, 6-1 versus Young Harris Friday afternoon at the E.D. River Field in Young Harris, Ga.

Anderson drops to 14-4 overall while Auburn Montgomery improves to 7-4 overall. Host Young Harris remains a perfect 11-0 on the season.

GAME #1

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Leading the Trojans at the plate was senior Courtney Czentnar batting 2-for-2 with two RBI. Freshmen Meghan Majeski and Mattie Hamilton each batted 2-for-3 with Hamilton hitting her seventh double of the season.

Junior right-hander Randee Bettis (4-1) suffered her first loss of the season pitching four complete innings. Bettis gave up four hits and three runs while striking out six. Senior Lauren Rudesheim was called in relief pitching the final three innings. Rudesheim gave up no hits and no runs while striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Auburn Montgomery took a 3-0 lead after the top half the fourth inning scoring one in the first and two in the fourth. Anderson threatened in each of the first three innings finally breaking through in the bottom of the fourth.

Majeski led the fourth off with a single to left field advancing to second on a wild pitch. The Warhawks were able to retire the next two Trojans batters. Czentnar ripped her first hit of the game to right center scoring Majeski for AU's first run of the game.

Rudesheim shut down the Warhawks while Anderson scored another run in the sixth inning. Again, Majeski scored on a single by Czentnar to pull the Black and Gold within one, 3-2. With just one out, Anderson left runners stranded on second and third.

The Trojans could not get anything going in the bottom of the seventh going down in order to end the game.

Auburn Montgomery's Rachael Ragland (4-2) earned the complete game victory. Ragland allowed seven hits and two runs while striking out seven.

GAME #2

Anderson 1, Young Harris 6

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Trojans picked up just three hits for the game. Junior Rachael Barefield, sophomore Kasey Grant and Majeski each went 1-for-3 at the plate with Grant hitting a double to left center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Young Harris took advantage of two errors and timely hitting breaking the game open in the fifth inning. The Mountain Lions scored four runs with three being unearned.

Young Harris's Jeanie Perrucci (6-0) pitched a complete game victory. Perrucci gave up just three hits while striking out 10 Trojans on the day.

For the Trojans, senior Augie Pena (5-1) took her first loss of the season.

ANDERSON STAT OF THE DAY

The Black and Gold were caught stealing for the first time this season (31-32).

UP NEXT

The Trojans return home to host nonconference opponent Clark Atlanta on Saturday. The first pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
